Josh Bloom, MD, MPH, CAQSM

Dr. Josh Bloom joined Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine in 2004 and has served as Medical Director of the Carolina Sports Concussion Clinic since its inception in 2008.  Dr. Bloom is Head Medical Team Physician for the Carolina Hurricanes and for USA Baseball.  He also serves as a Team Physician at Apex Friendship High School and is an active member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, the USA Baseball Medical and Safety Advisory Committee, the North Carolina Medical Society Sports Medicine Committee, the NHL Team Physician Society Concussion Return to Play and Research Subcommittees.  Dr. Bloom was named the 2012 Sports Medicine Person of the Year by the North Carolina Athletic Trainer’s Association and in 2015 the North Carolina High School Athletic Association presented him with the Elton Hawley Award as Athletic Trainer/Sports Medicine Professional of the Year.  Dr. Bloom is actively involved in sports concussion research and education, sports medicine initiatives, and routinely presents on sports concussion and other sports medicine topics at local, national, and international conferences.

Dr. Bloom attended Tulane University School of Medicine, where he completed his Medical Degree along with a Master’s Degree in Public Health, and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.  Following medical school, he completed a Family Practice Residency and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

Prior to medical school, Dr. Bloom attended Dartmouth College, where he was an Academic All-American linebacker, as well Co-Captain and Team MVP.  He was honored by the National Football Foundation as one of the top 15 scholar football players in America in 1994.  Dr. Bloom grew up in Alamosa, Colorado where he was a state champion wrestler and an all-state linebacker.

Dr. Bloom is married to Dr. Carie Bloom, a pediatrician, and they have two sons and a daughter.   He loves to spend time with his family and travel.  Dr. Bloom speaks Spanish.
